I just finished my guest spot at Victor Mayer Tattoo Studio, and it was a very warm and productive experience. It all started when I traveled to Bubendorf, Switzerland, to visit my friend Rossi Roncelli, who runs a small tattoo studio in the town. There, I met Alexander Mayer, Viktor’s brother, and immediately felt a very friendly atmosphere, where friends come by, stay for a few days, leave, and come back again.
When I realized I had spent enough time at Rossi’s and it was time to move on, Alexander suggested that I go to their newly opened Victor Mayer Tattoo Studio. It is a large, beautifully decorated studio. Viktor loves vintage, filling the space with candelabras, frames, crosses, and other antique items that he finds at German flea markets and sales. Inside, everything feels very thoughtful and atmospheric. You can sense that the interior design is considered as part of the studio’s overall concept.
Getting booked there was easy. Local clients liked my style, and my schedule quickly filled with Black and Grey appointments, which is very popular in Germany, especially in Bavaria. Joining the local tattoo scene happened naturally. People trusted me, recommended me, and the flow of models never stopped.
I also want to highlight the attitude of the team. Viktor’s wife constantly made sure everyone ate, never worked on an empty stomach, and the studio had the feeling that you were not just a guest, but part of the team. It is one of those rare atmospheres where you feel like you are part of the ship and know you have found the right place for work and connection. At the end of my guest spot, I was immediately invited to come back, and it is impossible to refuse such an invitation.
This experience confirmed a simple but important point for tattoo artists dreaming of opening their own studio. Before starting your own space, it is very useful to travel and do guest spots. You can see how different studios approach interior design, workspace organization, technical setups, hiring staff, and inviting guest artists. It is a hands-on, invaluable experience that helps you understand what you want to bring to your own studio and how to make it a place people will want to return to.
